It’s the final countdown

ONE day away.

It’s 3:30 in the morning in Seattle and I am getting ready to head to the airport to fly to CHICAGO.

I will be racing with 44,999 of my “closest” friends.

I’m excited.

I’m nervous.

This will be my fifth full marathon yet the pre-race jitters never go away.

To make sure I am all calm and zen and with it before and during the race (especially those last few miles,) I have compiled a list of all the people I will be thinking about and running for. Twenty-six for 26 miles:

1. My mom.

2. My dad.

3. My friends.

4. My roommates.

5. My teammates.

6. My cousins.

7. My grandparents.

8. Natalie.

9. My colleagues.

10. Sarah.

11. My aunts and uncles.

12. LMD.

13. Boston.

14. Those who can’t run.

15. Those 44,999 “friends.”

16. Race volunteers.

17. Those with PD and other diseases we will someday find a cure for.

18. Michael.

19. Vets.

20. My best friend.

21. My SPXC friends.

22. Seattle.

23. My future running self.

24. JBK.

25. My relatives.

26. Myself now.

Let’s do this, Chicago.
